QR Reader X
Privacy and offline behaviour
Why the app is fully offline, and what Android backup may include.
Does it really transmit nothing?
Yes. The App does not declare the INTERNET permission. On Android, without it an app cannot reach the network at all. This is not the developer promising not to send data — the operating system prevents it.
There is no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or crash-reporting tool bundled either.
How does detection work then?
Entirely on the device. The barcode model ships inside the App, so nothing is downloaded at runtime.
So is it completely private?
One thing is worth knowing. The App permits standard Android backup.
If you have Google backup or device transfer enabled in your device settings, your app settings and scan history may be included in your own Google account backup. That is an Android feature, and the developer cannot see that data.
If you would rather it did not happen, you have two options:
- Turn off saving history in settings, so there is nothing to include.
- Disable backup for the App in Settings → Apps → QR Reader X.
Clearing history
- A single entry: swipe to delete in the list (with undo)
- Everything: use clear all on the History screen
- Never record at all: turn off history in settings
- Uninstalling the App removes it too
