Casting and TV playback
Chromecast, pairing the companion TV app, and subtitles.
Chromecast
Send local files and media detected on the web to a Chromecast device.
For local files the App opens a temporary HTTP server on the device to serve the file to the cast device. It runs on the local network only and is cleaned up when the session ends.
Companion TV app
Pair with the separate Android TV app to play on a TV on the same network. Pairing uses a socket connection, and playback state stays in sync both ways.
Subtitles
- Subtitle files next to the video are picked up automatically
- SRT subtitles are converted to WebVTT for casting
- Subtitles embedded in web players are detected during web playback
- Subtitle language is detected and shown in the track list
- Subtitle size can be adjusted during playback
Troubleshooting
- Device not found: check that the phone and TV are on the same network segment. Guest Wi-Fi and AP isolation prevent discovery.
- Playback stutters: streaming local files depends on Wi-Fi bandwidth — the 5 GHz band works better.
- Subtitles missing: check that the subtitle filename matches the video filename.
