Using the Vault
How the encrypted vault works, and what you must know before using it.
How it works
Files moved into the Vault are encrypted with AES-GCM in app-private internal storage. The key is created and held by the Android Keystore and cannot be exported.
⚠️ Read this first
Uninstalling the App or clearing its data destroys the decryption key. Files in the Vault then cannot be recovered by any means. The developer cannot recover them either.
Always move Vault files out before factory-resetting, switching devices, or uninstalling.
What is actually protected
Stated without overstatement:
- File contents are encrypted.
- Filenames are not. The original name is written to the file header in plaintext.
- Biometric authentication gates the Vault screen. The encryption key itself is not bound to your fingerprint.
Using it
- Select files and move them to the Vault.
- Unlock the Vault screen with biometric authentication.
- To take a file out, decrypt it to a location you choose.
Folders cannot be added directly. Compress a folder to ZIP first, then add that file.
